DRILL DRILL DRILL THIS IS ONLY A DRILL

At 06:37 on a Thursday in summer, a corporate jet with a dozen people on board is enroute from Long Beach to Palm Springs and encounters engine trouble as it approaches Mt. San Jacinto.
The pilot has not flown into PS before and in the stress of trying to get his plane under control he doesn’t at first realize he’s off course and far too low. Just as PS tower alerts him, his engine fails completely sending him suddenly lower. As he passes over Pine Cove his tail hits the tallest cell / radio tower on Rocky Point and sends it flying. A chunk plunges into one of the water tanks immediately below, rupturing it with the resulting flash flood rushing off the point into the neighborhood below the point. The plane careens into Suicide Rock, shearing off most of his left wing and the fuel tank, spewing fuel and flames as he plummets straight into the base of Tahquitz Rock. The resulting explosion sends up a mushroom cloud of flame and smoke, instantly igniting the surrounding vegetation. Flames start moving up the ridge and crowning in the tall trees. The forest around and below Suicide Rock is a mass of fiery trees. Hikers in Humber Park, just getting ready to hit the trails are instead terrorized by the sight immediately above their heads. Their screams can be heard clear down the valley, into the town as the rocks behind them form a natural megaphone.
